HABOTAI is the leading Belgian society of silk painters, promoting the art of painting on silk. The name “Habotai” is Japanese for 'soft as down' and is also the name of a specific kind of silk weave.

HABOTAI was established in 1990 as a meeting place for silk enthusiasts, who wanted to share their passion of painting on silk.  After a while a third dimension was added as HABOTAI stood on the barricades to have 'painting on silk' recognised as a fully-fledged art form.  That objective still stands today and the majority of members are experienced silk painters from Belgium and abroad.
